Valpo Connections

A Valpo Wedding Event

Attending Valparaiso University has been a family tradition for the Gsellman family. Ron ‘63 and Lee Handrich ’63 Gsellman met at the Tau Kappa Epsilon house in 1960 and married in 1962. Out of their seven children, three of their daughters attended Valpo and all three followed in their parents’ footsteps and found love at Valpo: Shawn Gsellman ’86 Maassel, Kris Gsellman’89 Wagner and Kara Gsellman’91 McKenna.

Shawn and Paul Maassel ‘86 met at Dau/Kreinheder and studied together in the adjoining cafeteria. They had three children, two of whom attended Valpo, Nick Maassel ‘12 and Nathan Maassel ‘13.

Nick Maassel met Lindsey Dillingham ‘12 at Valpo at the beginning of their sophomore year in the Fall of 2009 at the Phi Kappa Psi House. Nick was a Phi Kappa Psi and Lindsey was a Gamma Phi Beta. The two spent time studying together in the Christopher Center as well going to Phi Psi dances together. They soon began dating and at the beginning of their final semester at Valpo, Nick proposed at the kissing bridge. The following summer, they were married in front of friends and family at Fishman’s Bend in Oregon.

From Nick’s parents and grandparents, to his aunts, uncles, and brother, they all share their love for Valpo. Pictured above is a photo of those in attendance at Nick and Lindsey’s wedding.
